Metropolitan Waterworks Museum

The Metropolitan Waterworks Museum is the old water pumping station for Boston.  It's towering 19th Century pumps fed the city for over a century and were responsible for much of its growth.  With pumps powerful enough to send water uphill, higher ground areas of the city such as Roxbury and Brookline were able to become inhabitable and develop.  The Great Engines Hall was the seat of technical and industrial innovation of the Gilded Age, one of the first clean drinking water system for residents in the country, and is a cornerstone of Boston's history.
