Silo City

Silo City is a magnificent row of abandoned grain silos along the Buffalo River at the terminus to the Erie Canal.  The grain industry once made Buffalo rich, when construction of the Erie Canal created the first major trade route connecting the new continental US and enabled midwestern grain markets to reach and feed the entire eastern seaboard.  These grain elevators were the largest in the world when built; people came from all over to study them.  Now these towering monuments stand emptied and crumbling.
